What is Verochic?
Verochic is pure shikimic acid powder derived from Illicium verum (the star anise plant) by a patented process. Its INCI name is Shikimic Acid. Produced at a purity of 98% or above, it is 100% vegetable-derived, preservative-free, water soluble and holds both COSMOS and NATRUE approval.
As an exfoliant, it removes the superficial layer of dead skin cells that cause dull, uneven complexion and does so more effectively than glycolic acid whilst producing zero irritation at recommended use levels. As a deodorising agent, it works at the source of body odour by inhibiting the lipase enzyme and the specific bacteria responsible for the microbial conversion of sweat into volatile malodours. Its antimicrobial activity is selective, targeting pathogenic bacteria and fungi without disrupting the beneficial microbiota of the skin, oral cavity or vaginal mucosa. And underpinning all of this is an antioxidant profile that helps protect skin cells from damage caused by free radicals and environmental stressors.
An innovative approach to body deodorising
Body odour is created when skin bacteria convert sweat into volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The key bacterial strains involved are Staphylococcus hominis, Corynebacterium striatum and Corynebacterium xerosis. Verochic acts on the prevention of the formation of malodours by inhibiting these pathogenic strains responsible for the microbial conversion of sweat into volatile malodours. Verochic tackles this on two fronts simultaneously, inhibiting lipase activity and directly targeting the odour-causing bacteria.
